Question by Doddsie: What are any good future technology books or how may I learn more about it?
I am really interested in technological advancements and would really like a book to read that mentions about future technologies or current technologies.
Therefore I ask if you have read any good books about technology.
I’ve heard a bit about Nicholas Negroprontes book about future technologies but it was written near 15 years ago so it mightn’t be so relevant.
If not a particular book, how did you get into technology?

Popular Science and Popular Electronics are good magazines to read about technology.
Discovery Magazine is also good.

Go to a good bookstore and browse in the “Technical Magazines” section and I am sure you will find something. Magazines can provide more up to date info than books.

It’s not free, but you can try Bento. There’s a trial download, and how-to’s on their website. Bento also links up with Address Book and iCal, so your OS has access to all of the information.

This happened before with a previous hp laptop I had, it pretty much took over the network so that when anyone else would try and connect to the network the phase phrase or key would not work. Any ideas on how to get this back to normal ?

The only ways I know that what you describe might happen would be if

1) a user on one of the computers connected, logs onto the control page and changes the key (including neighbors, if you started out with no encryption), or

2) you ran an install or setup program on the laptop and were not careful about the screens that could result in that program changing the key.

You would get it back to normal by going into the setup page of your wireless router and changing the key.

My boyfriend was given an old laptop in work. The previous owner of the laptop no longer works with the company but the laptop still uses his sign in details. Username and password needed. Without these we dont seem to be able to sign in. Any tips? or should the laptop go in the bin?

you could re-install the operating system! – that’s the only way I can think of, then this will wipe everything off! Or, your boyfriend could ask his works’ manager or someone if they know the log-in details if it was on a network.

I have a Mac OS X with a built-in mic, but I want to plug in an external microphone for a clearer sound. However (this might be a little stupid) I cannot find anywhere to plug it in that works. Help?

Your Mac normally has a sound in plug. On my iMac it looks like a circle with to triangles on the left and right. More or less like this >0<

If you want really better sound, then invest in a USB or Firewire soundcard or a USB Microphone. They are available from about $ 50,-

So laptops don’t need voltage converters, but lots of mp3 players do. If I have my laptop charged into a 240 volt European outlet, is it safe to charge my mp3 player, via USB cable, off the laptop? Thank you!

yes, I think it is. But be sure that your laptop is really dual voltage, as otherwise the European 220-240V will fry your American 110V power supply.
